Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in the OSCE  and other International Organisations in Vienna?

We offer:

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the OSCE Section of the EU Delegation to the International Organisations in Vienna, starting in September 2024.

The OSCE Section covers the wide and rich agenda of the Organization’s activities across its three key dimensions: politico-military, economic and environmental, and human rights and fundamental freedoms. It also covers transnational threats, such as cyber and counter terrorism, and situations of conflict such as in eastern Ukraine and the protracted conflicts. The OSCE Section is responsible for ensuring EU coordination, outreach towards third countries, drafting EU statements and preparing reports for the European External Action Service (EEAS) and other EU institutions. The OSCE Section engages in public diplomacy efforts showcasing EU actions and achievements within the Organization. The OSCE Section assists the EU Permanent Representative in the performance of her role as Ambassador of the EU to the OSCE.

Main tasks:

  • Monitor developments in the three OSCE dimensions: politico-military, economic and environmental, and human dimension.
  • Assist permanent staff in the coverage of a large variety of regional and thematic dossiers.
  • Assist permanent staff in the preparation of EU coordination and outreach activities.
  • Help in drafting EU statements.
  • Take notes and draft reports in a variety of meetings and consultations.
  • Support permanent staff’s participation in meetings and consultations.
  • Engage in background research on EU and OSCE related topics.
  • Assist in the organization of public diplomacy activities.
We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • A Master's degree in an area related to the above, e.g. International Relations, European Studies, International Law, International Economics etc.
  • A demonstrated interest in the EU's external action and in international relations, particularly in the area of security.
  • Very good skills in note taking, drafting reports, and carrying out background research.
  • Excellent English language skills.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
