Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in the Non-Proliferation and other International Organisations in Vienna?

We offer:

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Non-Proliferation Section of the EU Delegation to the International Organisations in Vienna, starting in August 2024.

The Non-Proliferation (NP) Section covers a dense multilateral agenda on nuclear non-proliferation issues (such as the JCPOA, IAEA nuclear issues on Iran, DPRK, Syria, as well as the NPT and CTBT) and export controls. The daily tasks of the Section include chairing of EU coordination meetings, conducting outreach to international organisations and third countries, drafting EU statements, representing the EU in international fora, and preparing internal briefing notes as well as reports for the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission. The NP Section is also actively engaged in public diplomacy efforts showcasing tangible results of EU action in support of the rules-based multilateral system.

Main tasks:

  • Assisting permanent staff in the preparation of meetings and other diplomatic activities.
  • Assisting in the drafting of briefings, reports, statements and other documents.
  • Participating and note-taking in meetings.
  • Assisting in public diplomacy activities.
We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • A bachelor or master`s degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. International Politics, European Studies etc.
  • A demonstrated interest in the EU’s external action and international politics, specifically the UN.
  • Experience in the drafting of policy documents, note-taking and drafting of meeting reports.
  • Excellent English language skills.
  • Experience working for a related International Organisation or a diplomatic Mission in that context as well as the ability to work in other UN languages would be assets.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
