Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation to the OECD and UNESCO represents EU interests and values in International Organisations?

 

We offer:

Traineeships of up to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to the OECD and UNESCO in Paris, starting in February 2024, subject to budget availability:

  • Political Traineeship in the OECD Economic/Trade section:

Main tasks:

  • Preparation of EU line-to-take for OECD Council and Executive Committee meetings;
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting of reports of EU coordination meetings;
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting of reports of meetings of OECD formal or informal bodies meetings;
  • Drafting research papers on EU-related matters; OECD matters
  • Economic Traineeship in the OECD Economic/Trade section:

Main tasks:

  • Preparation of EU's participation in the OECD's Economic and Development Review Committee. In particular, preparation of the EU line-to-take on country specific economic surveys by coordinating with other EU Delegations and Brussels-based services.
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting: attend various meetings at the OECD related to Economics and Trade and take detailed notes to capture discussions, decisions, and action items, and compile comprehensive reports.
  • Background research: analyse OECD technical reports with mainly economic and financial information; provide support to Economic/Trade Counsellor ahead of meetings.
  • Traineeship in the OECD Development/External Relations section:

Main tasks:

  • Preparation of EU line-to-take for OECD development-related meetings and the External Relations Committee;
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting of reports of EU coordination meetings;
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting of reports of OECD formal or informal bodies meetings;
  • Drafting research papers on EU-related matters; OECD matters

 

  • Traineeship in the UNESCO Section (also covering IEA and NEA):

Main tasks:

  • Preparation of EU line-to-take for UNESCO meetings;
  • Preparation of EU line-to-take for International Energy Agency (IEA)  and Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) meetings
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting of reports of EU coordination meetings;
  • Participation, note-taking, and drafting of reports of UNESCO, IEA or NEA meetings;
  • Drafting research papers on EU-related matters; UNESCO, IEA or NEA matters
We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • The Delegation is looking for 5 highly motivated and proactive trainees to work on OECD (4 posts) and UNESCO (1 post);
  • You have a university degree (e.g. law, economics, international relations, or other);
  • A master’s degree is an asset;
  • You have excellent command of English, in particular solid drafting skills (a written test will be administered);
  • You have some knowledge of French;
  • You may wish to indicate whether you have any expertise with OECD, UNESCO or IEA-related matters, or any particular interest/preference for any of the three Organisations. Note however that the ultimate decision as to traineeship assignment lies with the Delegation.
  • Traineeship will start between 1 and 15 February 2024 (exact date to be confirmed by EU Delegation to selected trainees). Applicants not available to start by 15 February 2024 will not be considered.
  • Due to the large number of applicants and the limited number of places available, applicants are strongly advised to note the eligibility criteria for a traineeship at the EU Delegation. Unless all the requirements are met (including availability), your application will not be considered.

  • a cover letter describing why you want to participate in a EU traineeship
  • and an application form

Please mention in the subject of your e-mail: Funded Traineeship - OECD - Political traineeship in the Economic/Trade Section; OECD - Economic traineeship in the Economic/Trade Section; OECD -Development Traineeship in Development/External relations Section;  OECD External relations Traineeship in Development/External relations Section; or UNESCO Section  (you may only apply to 1 traineeship per delegation, however based on your profile, the delegation could offer you a traineeship in another section).

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. As an indication, 2023 monthly grants are published here. These amounts may be revised for traineeships starting in 2024. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
