We offer:

Traineeships of up to 3 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea, starting in October 2023:

 

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI):

The Delegation's Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation follows political developments and events in the country and provides analytical reports to the EU's Headquarters, based in Brussels (Belgium). The Section is also responsible for press and media contacts as well as for the organisation of media and public diplomacy events and activities.

Main tasks:

  • Assist with the conceptualisation and organisation of press and public diplomacy activities (both small and larger scale events) which may include contributing to the  drafting and editing of content for the Delegation (i.e. press releases, political statements/speeches, information, education and communication materials as well as supporting the engagement with local and international media etc;
  • Assist the section with tracking EU or EU-relevant content in local or regional media (printed, digital) and maintaining a scrapbooking file of the placements, both electronically and as hard copy;
  • Support the production of the Delegation's Weekly Press Review;   
  • Provide constructive feedback regarding EU in PNG visibility methods;
  • Contribute to the content production for the Delegation's website including the planning of content for specific occasions (international days, politically significant dates etc.;
  • Take part in relevant internal and external meetings as well as policy dialogues and assist with putting together briefs, reporting and forward planning documents;
  • Participate in preparing Delegation procurement procedures in accordance with EU rules and regulations (tenders and Calls for Proposals);
  • Any other work-related tasks as assigned by your Internship Supervisor.

 

Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP):

The Delegation's Cooperation Section oversees the implementation of the EU's development assistance & trade portfolio in PNG as well as the identification and formulation of future development assistance programmes and activities.

Main tasks:

  • Assist with providing operational support to the trade officer and other section members;
  • Take part in relevant internal and external meetings and assist with putting together briefs, reporting and forward planning documents;
  • Assist with the assessment and analysis of project proposals and reports and provide comments and suggestions for further considerations;
  • Contribute to ensuring that relevant information on private sector and business partners is kept up to date;
  • Any other work-related tasks as assigned by your Internship Supervisor.

 

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Applicants for traineeship in the Political, Press & Information Section shall have at least a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in International Relations /Politics, Journalism & Public Relations or another area relevant for the position offered.
  • Applicant for a traineeship in the Cooperation Section shall have at least a Bachelor's degree in Economics and/or International Trade or another area relevant for the position offered.
  • The ideal candidate must demonstrate ability to analyse funding proposals, draft reports/ briefs/ minutes and conduct desktop research in various areas of engagement. 
  • Must be proficient in the use of relevant IT applications.  
  • Selected trainees must arrange their own accommodation within reasonable distance to the EU Delegation.
  • Taking into account the local health, living and security conditions, only Papua New Guinean nationals will be considered.
  • Selected candidates may be required to take vaccination in the event of a pandemic as appropriate measures may apply in the EU Delegation.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation.
