We offer:

Traineeships of up to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, starting in June 2023:

The Cooperation Section manages the various development programmes of the EU to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, follows development related policies in those two countries and interacts with various stakeholders in the countries on these and related issues.

  • Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP) - Environment and climate change profile:

Main tasks:

  • Analyse and write reports about environment and climate change related developments and policies in Sri Lanka, the Maldives and South Asia.
  • Advise Project Officers and Colleagues on the above-mentioned issues.
  • Follow news on EU Green Deal related topics in the local media and summarise these.
  • Get exposed to programmes planning and sectoral policies analysis.
  • Get exposed to interaction with Government counterparts and other donors.
  • Get exposure to project management by assisting to manage one project her/himself.
  • Support other sections in the Delegation on the above issues as agreed.
  • Carry out any other assignment as instructed by the Head of Cooperation or proposed by the Trainee and agreed by the Head of Cooperation.

 

  • Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP): Economic Profile

Main tasks:

  • Analyse and write reports about economic developments and policies in Sri Lanka, the Maldives and South Asia
  • Advise Project Officers and Colleagues in the Political Press and Information Section on the above-mentioned issues.
  • Follow economic news in the local media and summarise these.
  • Get exposed to programme planning and sectoral policies analysis.
  • Get exposed to interaction with Government counterparts and other donors.
  • Get exposure to project management by assisting to manage projects.
  • Support other sections in the Delegation on economic issues.
  • Carry out any other assignment as instructed by the Head of Cooperation or proposed by the Trainee and agreed by the Head of Cooperation.

 

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Taking into account the local security conditions, applicants currently residing in Sri Lanka will only be considered.
  • Bachelor, preferably Master degree (or higher) in environmental science/studies, economics, political science, international relations or similar.
  • Exposure to development issues and/or international relations.
  • Fluent English in writing and oral.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in a team.
  • Open to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of Sinhala or Tamil would be an asset.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must undertake to apply for a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.

The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the context of the COVID-19 in the host country as well as in the country of origin where applicable.
