Global and regional challenges can best be tackled together: EU and LAS Ambassadors explored avenues for further cooperation after a two-year break due to COVID-19

After a two-year break due to COVID-19, the Political and Security Committee of the EU (PSC) and the League of Arab States (LAS) met on Ambassadorial level for their 9th political dialogue in Cairo on 8 June 2022.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of protracted crises throughout the region, which is also confronted with global challenges such as the post-pandemic recovery, climate change, but also the implications of the Russian war on Ukraine.

During their encounter, Ambassadors of both sides discussed the consequences of the Russian war against Ukraine for global food security, as well as efforts to facilitate Peacebuilding in the Middle East and to promote peace, security and reforms in the region. The discussions allowed the EU and LAS to explore several avenues for cooperation in an open and constructive manner. Both sided expressed their aspiration to hold the sixth Joint Ministerial Meeting in October at LAS headquarters.
