Honduras: Statement by the Spokesperson on the electoral process

The European Union reiterates its support for the current electoral process in Honduras and the work that the National Electoral Council is carrying out despite all the technical difficulties. The EU calls on all candidates to wait and respect the counting process.

On 30 November, Hondurans voted peacefully and in large numbers reaffirming their commitment to democracy. The will of the Honduran people must be respected. The EU urges political parties and authorities to refrain from actions that hinder the work of electoral institutions and to respect the rule of law. The National Electoral Council is the body responsible for declaring the election results and the EU is attentive to its pronouncement. 

The EU Election Observation Mission continues to be present in the country to accompany this process.
