HR/VP inaugurates HQ of the new civilian CDSP mission in Moldova – and initiates operations.

On 31 May, in Chisinau, Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy inaugurated the Mission HQ and initiated the operations of the EU Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM Moldova) in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nico Popescu and Minister of Interior, Ana Revenco.

The Head of Mission Cosmin Dinescu and the EU Civilian Operations Commander Stefano Tomat, EEAS Managing Director of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability headquarters (CPCC) were in attendance.

The aim of the mission, formally established on 24 April 2023 and launched by the Council on 22 May 2023 at the request of the government of Moldova, is to contribute to the strengthening of Moldova’s crisis management structures and to enhance its resilience to hybrid threats, including cybersecurity, and countering foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI). The Mission is expected to have the planned 39 international staff on the ground by the summer. The initial duration of the mandate is 2 years, until 21 May 2025.
