IWD2021: Young Women in Tonga Breaking Gender-Stereotypes

Nine young women who are part of the Talitha Project in Tonga can now officiate rugby matches in schools and communities, after completing an Introductory Level Referees Course.

These young women now feel empowered to contribute towards a male –dominated sport and are helping break gender-stereotypes.

The course was supported by UN Women possible through the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls programme, primarily funded by the European Union with targeted support from the governments of Australia and New Zealand.
