Japan: EU–Japan Political Dialogue takes place in Tokyo
Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Olof Skoog visited Tokyo on 18 February for extensive discussions on cooperation between EU and Japan in line with the Strategic Partnership.
Together with Mr. Hiroyuki Namazu, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Deputy Secretary General Skoog co-chaired the annual Political Dialogue covering a broad range of issues.
In an increasingly challenging global context, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between EU and Japan and to work closely in the G7, G 20 and the UN. They exchanged extensively on global issues and on how to continue close cooperation on support to Ukraine and for a just and lasting peace in view of Russia’s war of aggression.
Discussions also covered areas of enhanced cooperation and coordination on political and security issues in East Asia and in the Indo-Pacific as well as in relation to developments in the Middle East. They also agreed on the need to defend multilateralism, the rules-based international order and the UN charter.
