Japan: EU and Japan hold fifth Dialogue in Brussels

On 22 November, the fifth European Union - Japan Cyber Dialogue took place in Brussels. The EU and Japan discussed their respective cyber strategies and policies, bilateral, regional and international cooperation, including the ASEAN regional Forum and the UN. They also exchanged on capacity building and the ever increasing cyber threat landscape.  

The regular EU-Japan Cyber Dialogue is held within the framework of the political and security cooperation. The EU and Japan confirmed that they will continue to hold the Japan-EU Cyber Dialogue on a regular basis.

On the EU side, the Dialogue was chaired by Joanneke Balfoort, Deputy Managing Director for Peace, Security and Defence. She was accompanied by several Directorates-General from the European Commission - for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) and for International Partnerships (INTPA) -, the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3), EUROPOL, CERT-EU, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) and EU Member States, as observers.

On the Japanese side, the Dialogue was chaired by Mr. ISHIZUKI Hideo, Ambassador in charge of Cyber Policy and Deputy Director-General of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), with the participation of officials from MOFA, the National center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC), the National Police Agency (NPA), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and JPCERT.
