The European Union takes note of the verdict in the ‘December Trials’ in Suriname, regarding the killing of political opponents in 1982 in the country.

The outcome marks the culmination of a long and arduous legal process, based on careful consideration of all the evidence presented and the application of the rule of law.

In any nation, the pursuit of justice is a collective responsibility that involves not only the courts and legal professionals but society as a whole. It reflects a commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served.

This verdict embodies a commitment to these principles, which is shared by the EU and Suriname. The EU hopes that the verdict brings clarity, closure, and a sense of justice to the families of the victims and all others who have been affected.
