Vacancy Notice: EU Special Representative for Central Asia

We offer:
A traineeship of 6 months within the office of the EU Special Representative for Central Asia (EUSR CA).
The EUSR CA mandate is based on the Union’s policy objectives in Central Asia. Those objectives include:
- promoting good and close relations between the Union and the countries of Central Asia on the basis of common values and interests as set out in relevant agreements;
- contributing to strengthening the stability and cooperation between the countries in the region;
- contributing to strengthening democracy, the rule of law, good governance and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in Central Asia;
- addressing key threats, especially specific problems with direct implications for the Union;
- enhancing the Union’s effectiveness and visibility in the region, including through closer coordination with other relevant partners and international organisations, such as the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations (UN).
The trainee will be working with the EUSR CA as well as with her Political Advisors. In this regard, the chosen candidate will have the chance to receive insight on all aspects of the EUSR CA mandate and support of EUSR CA cooperation with the Central Asian governments, as well as the coordination with EU institutions relevant for the EU’s relations to the region.
Main tasks:
- Preparation of meetings of the EUSR CA, including by providing input for briefings, memos, office correspondence and reports as appropriate and requested. Possibility to attend various work related meetings.
- Assist in the organisation of EUSR CA missions and incoming visits.
- Conduct research on topics relevant to the activities of the EUSR CA, monitor political, economic and social developments in the Central Asian region.
- Contribute to the EUSR CA online outreach and communications in coordination with the EUSR CA team. Assist in writing and editing speeches, edit videos and photos, and other communication materials for the EUSR CA.
- Participate in meetings and events in Brussels with external stakeholders organised by EU Member States, civil society representatives, EU institutions and think tanks on Central Asia or relevant to the mandate of the EUSR CA, and produce reports on these activities for information of the team.

Qualifications or special requirements:
- Nationals of a Member State of the European Union.
- Bachelor degree in international relations, political science, European studies, law, economics, communication or a related field and completed or ongoing master studies.
- Excellent knowledge of English. Additional languages will be considered as an asset.
- Ability to handle politically sensitive issues in a responsible manner.
- Proven interest for EU affairs and neighbourhood policies.
- Experience in research and analysis.
- Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft packages.
- Good interpersonal skills and attention to details.
- Will to work in a team and in coordinating inputs from various colleagues.
- Ability to work in dynamic and international environment.

Important information to read before applying
Applicants who have already benefited or currently benefit from any kind of training or employment within a European Union institution, body, agency or office are not eligible. Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered.
The traineeship contract will be drafted according to Belgian employment regulations. In this context, the trainee will receive a monthly living allowance of 1300,00 € (net). The appropriate withholding tax to the Belgian authorities will be paid by the EUSR office. All costs related to possible relocation, insurance, accommodation, and daily living expenses must be borne by the trainee. The trainee will be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the traineeship and must show proof of a valid medical insurance coverage.
After the evaluation of all applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. The selected candidate will be requested to provide certificates of education.
