In 1972, Ondrej Nepela returned to Czechoslovakia from the Sapporo Winter Olympics with a gold medal in figure skating. Awaiting him back home was not merely the glory of having reached a career pinnacle, but also a massive apparatus of control that transformed the individual into a national symbol - an existence leaving no room for the desire to live authentically.
‘There was always something about him that drew me in. His story had a touch of melancholy, sadness, tragedy.’ (Director Gregor Valentovič)
