Set in the Danish countryside during the 1920s, ORDET (The Word) is a story of faith, family and love. It centers on the three sons of the Borgen family: one an atheist, one deeply devout, and one who - following a mental breakdown - believes himself to be Jesus Christ. Each and every scene evokes the interplay of light and shadow from the art of the European masters, paving the way for one of cinema’s most memorable pinnacles.

‘What remains when all elements of reality have vanished, when every attempt to seek out the natural in the quotidian has been cast aside, and when the space is rendered with such purity that all traces of life’s characteristic features are excluded?’ (Tran Anh Hung)
