At 17 and living out a destitute existence in a trailer park with her alcoholic mother, Rosetta is in a constant battle to keep her job, as if to avoid falling into the abyss of other lives around her. The Dardenne brothers' handheld camera closely tracks the protagonist throughout the film, refusing any distance for pity or judgment, forcing the audience to feel, firsthand, Rosetta's inner turmoil.
‘A masterpiece that saw out the 20th century and ushered in the 21st - a work in which religious and spiritual themes transcend a backdrop of social turbulence.’ (Tran Anh Hung)
