As of 9 December 2025, EU Member States will issue a new EU Emergency Travel Document to persons who lose their passport while travelling abroad.

In line with ongoing discussions at the EU level, including the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Defence (FAC-D), and following a French initiative, the Chiefs of Defence and National Armament Directors of the European Union Member States met today Paris.
