About our Ambassador Dirk Schuebel

EU in Kosovo, 2026

He already held two ambassadorial mandates, as EU Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus from 2019 to 2022 and to Moldova from 2009 to 2013.

Prior to taking up his current position, Schuebel served as Head of the Russia Division at the European External Action Service from July 2024 to August 2026, a position he had previously held from 2018 to 2019.

His career has focused particularly on EU foreign policy. From 2022 to 2024, Schuebel served as the EU Special Envoy for the Eastern Partnership, while between 2013 and 2018 he headed the EU division responsible for bilateral relations with Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Earlier in his career, Schuebel was Head of the Political, Press and Information Section at the EU Delegation to Ukraine and Belarus in Kyiv, where he also deputised for the Head of Delegation. He held a number of positions in the European Commission, working in the areas of trade, enlargement, transport and energy.

Before joining the European institutions, Schuebel worked at the German Federal Foreign Ministry, specialising in international economic relations, foreign trade and foreign trade promotion.

Schuebel holds a Diploma in Foreign Trade and International Commercial Relations, awarded with distinction by the Hochschule für Ökonomie Berlin.

Born in Zwickau, Germany, in 1965, Schuebel speaks German, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Dutch and Italian. He is married and has one daughter.
