The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. 

The EU Delegation to Nepal, Kathmandu works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Nepal government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of secretary (providing mainly administrative tasks), Group III in the Delegation’s Political, Press and Information Section. The team consists of four people and there are occasional atypical working hours.

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in the Political, Press and Information field.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required:

  • Provide support to the Head of section, including in his capacity as Chargé d’affaires a.i.

  • Overall organisational and administrative assistance in the Political, Press, and Information section

  • Managing schedules, appointments, and correspondence for the Head of Section, and supporting other staff.

  • Assisting in the preparation and coordination of meetings, events, missions and official visits.

  • Handling office communications, including phone calls, emails, mail, and ensuring timely responses.

  • Supporting the preparation, formatting and editing of reports, briefing documents, and press releases by gathering information and ensuring accuracy.

  • Drafting of correspondence and meeting minutes

  • Registration of correspondence and documents including maintaining and organising filing systems and databases, online filing as well as physical filing. 

  • Assisting in the management of press and public information activities, including events such as Europe Day.

  • Act as alternate for the Assistant to the Head of Delegation in their absence

The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from NPR 133,588.  There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.

The expected start date will be 19 May 2026.

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • Completed secondary education or higher secretarial college attested by a diploma;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in the secretarial field or administration (the professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained.);
  • Working knowledge (both written and verbal) of English and Nepali (minimum B2[1]);
  • Right to residence and work in Nepal.

Assets/selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)

  • Previous experience in a diplomatic mission or multicultural environment;
  • Be able to perform multiple tasks and to prioritise, while respecting deadline;
  • Sound skills of time management, interpersonal skills; capacity of organising and coordinating meetings and agendas;
  • Sound computer skills (MS Office)
  • Skills and experience with VTC tools, in particular WEBEX;
  • Level of language skills (written and oral) in English and Nepali;
  • Extent of archivist/archiving experience or training;
  • Team work fluency, high flexibility, and capacity to work under pressure;
  • Knowledge of additional EU languages (such as French).

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose. 

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based on the assessment of the information provided in the cover letter and CV; practical testing and interviews. A minimum of the best two candidates will be invited to the final interview or test.

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure. During the selection process, please do not contact the members of the Selection Committee, but address your questions and comments to the Delegation’s Administration.

The successful candidate will be subject to a medical check attesting their fitness to work.
