Georgia's social workers share experience with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova thanks to EU support

Georgian Association of Social Workers (GASW) showed its colleagues from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova Georgia's experience with child welfare reform. The visit was enabled through support of the European Union project “Social Workers in collaboration for Social Change in Eastern Neighbourhood Countries”.

The guests learned about deinstitutionalization and development of family preservation programs in Georgia. Meetings and roundtables with representatives of the Social Services Agency, UNICEF, international and local NGOs took place. Additionally, the participants visited organizations in Tbilisi and in the regions that offer services aimed to strengthen families and prevent separation of children from their family.

Background:

The project is  carried out with financial support of the European Union and Austrian Development Cooperation with a total project budget of EUR 1.8 million. It is implemented by the Hilfswerk Austria International (HWA) from August 2015 until January 2018. The regional initiative strives to contribute to the social well-being of vulnerable groups by developing and strengthening the concept of and access to social work in the four project.
