Of this amount, 22,000,000 Euros will be in the form of Budget Support, and Two Million Euros in complementary Aid. This support is intended to assist the Government to successfully implement its Justice Sector Reform Programme during the period 2017 -2020. Specifically, it aims to improve service delivery in the Justice Sector; increasing access to gender-responsive, accountable and effective justice services, especially for the vulnerable and improving treatment of children in the responsibility of the criminal justice system.

"People whether in Jamaica or in one of our 28 member States, want social inclusion, efficiency, professionalism, transparency, accountability and a justice system that works for them, all of them," says Ambassador Malgorzata Wasilewska, Head of Delegation of the EU to Jamaica.

She says further that having met with Justice Minister Delroy Chuck she is convinced of his commitment to modernizing the justice sector, which she describes as crucial. As such, she is confident that the support provided will go a far way in helping to respond to the call of the Jamaican people for justice.

The Ambassador was speaking at the signing of the Cooperation Agreement, which took place at the Ministry of Finance in Kingston on Thursday December 9.

The agreement in support of the justice sector is part of the larger Cooperation Agreement between Jamaican and the European Union under the eleventh European Development Fund (EDF 11) which totals 46,000,000 Euros.

The Cooperation Agreement for the Justice sector was signed by Audley Shaw, Minister of Finance and the Public Service and Delroy Chuck, Minister of Justice along with Ambassador Wasilewska.
