EU Delegation, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation launch call for entries for 1st EU–China Short Film Festival
"Short films are often marginalised in mainstream culture by the big blockbuster movies featuring famous actors, but these "little sisters" of the film industry often provide important, engaging and creative insight into other cultures. This project thus aims to further promote Sino-European cultural exchange by creating a platform for dialogue between short filmmakers, in particular young artists," Ambassador Schweisgut said.
Both fiction and non-fiction films on any theme and in any form (i.e. documentaries, animations, etc.) are welcome. Films should be from 2014 onwards and have a running time of less than 40 minutes. Films should be submitted by 28th February 2017. A maximum of 56 Chinese films and 56 European films (2 per Member State) will be admitted for selection by jury.
The final selection of films will take place in the first week of April 2017 and winners will be decided by a jury composed of three Chinese and three European members from the film and cultural industries. Twelve "Hope Cups" ( 1 gold prize, 2 silver prizes, and 3 bronze ones for EU and China films respectively) will be awarded and the winners will also have the opportunity to attend a 7-10 day film summer camp for young international filmmakers, organised by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation.
The short films selected will also be made available on Chinese online video platforms as well as shown on other platforms and at different cultural events throughout the year.
