Statement by the Spokesperson on the twin-terror attack in Mogadishu, Somalia

Today's twin-terror attacks at and near the Dayah Hotel in Mogadishu left many  casualties. Our thoughts go to the families of the victims.

The attack takes place when Somalia's electoral process is nearing its completion with the Presidential elections due to take place within weeks.

This is first and foremost an attack against the Somali people who for several decades have suffered from insecurity and disarray. The continued violence emphasises the important role of newly elected members of parliament and the next government to focus on Somalia's future for the benefit of the Somali population at large.   

The European Union, a long-term partner to Somalia, will accompany the country on this road.
