Statement by the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini on the launch of ballistic missiles by the DPRK

Text

Earlier today the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) launched  several ballistic missiles in utter disregard of multiple UN Security Council Resolutions, including the latest one, 2321 of 30 November 2016. These actions are illegal and further raise tensions in the region and beyond to the detriment of all.

The DPRK must halt all launches using ballistic missile technology and abandon its ballistic missile programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner, as required by the UN Security Council.

The DPRK needs to immediately re-engage in a credible and meaningful dialogue with the international community, in particular the Six-Party Talks.

I will also be in contact with the Foreign Minister of Japan and of our other international partners to further discuss the international response over the coming days.
