EUDEL Statement on the decision of Sabail district court in Azerbaijan on 12 May to block permanently five online media outlets including online television platforms

- The EU expresses its deep concern on the recent unprecedented decision taken by the Sabail district court in Baku in Azerbaijan on 12 May to block permanently five online media outlets including online television platforms.

- This decision is not in line with the requirement for free, diverse and independent media in modern and democratic societies.

- Without freedom of expression and freedom of the media, citizens do not have the opportunity to be informed, active and engaged.

- The EU expects Azerbaijan to fulfil its international commitments as a party to the European Convention on Human Rights and its Article 10 on the right to freedom of expression and information.
