Ukraine hosts European Film Festival

European Film Festival starts on June 22. Free screenings will take place in more than 100 venues – libraries, clubs and cultural centres in over 70 Ukrainian localities: Bakhmut, Berdyansk, Vinnytsia, Dolina, Dubno, Zhytomyr, Zhovti Vody, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kamyanets-Podilsky, Kyiv, Kostyantynivka, Lysychansk, Lviv, Odessa, Poltava, Rivne, Severodonetsk and others.

The opening of the festival will be held in Kramatorsk, in Vіlna Hata art space. Any appropriate venue may become a host of the festival: film rights are provided free of charge for curators of cinema clubs or activists who have facilities to organize screenings in their town. For that please fill in the application form at www.europeanfilms.org.ua . Only applications for non-commercial screenings are eligible.

The program of European Film Festival comprises remarkable features released in recent years. The biopic of Jacques-Yves Cousteau ODYSSEY by Jérôme Salle became the highest-grossing French adventure film. Social drama BROKEN by Rufus Norris was awarded Grand Prix at Odessa IFF. Italian fantasy TALE OF TALES by Matteo Garrone stars Salma Hayek and Vincent Kassel. Spanish melodrama JULIETA by Pedro Almodovar was nominated for Palme d’Or. Satirical Belgian comedy THE BRAND NEW TESTAMENT by Jaco Van Dormael is the Golden Globe Award nominee for the Best Motion Picture in Foreign Language. Maren Ade’s dramedy TONY ERDMANN was claimed one of the best films of the year according to international film press.

The event is initiated by Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine. The showcase offers to have a closer look to the best films, shot in EU in recent years. The project aims to popularize the European art of cinema.
