For the first time the EU in Myanmar granted Schuman Awards for merits in promoting democracy, rule of law, human rights, tolerance and equality. The Schuman Awards recognise the work of outstanding personalities who often face resistance, criticism and threat. The European Union's Schuman Awards aim at encouraging them to continue their efforts in promoting fundamental rights and freedoms.
