43 Cambodian students and academic staff received EU scholarships
27 European students and academic staff are selected to study and teach in Cambodia

This year 43 Cambodian students and academic staff have been granted a full scholarship from the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme to study in Europe for periods between 6 and 24 months, and to be visiting lecturers in Europe for 5 days to 6 months.

With these scholarships students will pursue Undergraduate, Master and Doctorate programmes in 13 EU countries including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Sweden. 

Their studies will cover different majors including: Agriculture, Biology, Business, Computer Science, Education, Economics, Environment, Engineering, Fine Arts, Information and Communication Technologies, Journalism, Media Arts Cultures, Mathematics, Languages, Law and Veterinary Medicine.

Also this year 27 European students and academic staff are selected under the Erasmus+ programme to study and teach in six of Cambodia's universities such as the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, the Royal University of Agriculture, the Royal University of Law and Economics, the Royal University of Phnom Penh, the University of Battambang and Zaman University and rest will join shortly.

In the evening Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia H.E. Mr. George EDGAR and Cambodian Education Minister H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron will bid farewell to the new group of EU scholarship beneficiaries.  Journalists are welcome to attend and cover the event.

Between 2005 and 2016 the EU-funded Erasmus+ and Erasmus Mundus programmes have given scholarships to 600 Cambodian students and academic staff to study and lecture in Europe.

In addition to scholarships, the Erasmus+ programme has also financed capacity building in higher education (CBHE), which aims to support the modernisation, accessibility and internationalisation of higher education in Partner Countries.  11 projects were contracted in 2016. 16 Cambodian higher education institutions are benefiting from these projects - Department of Science and Technology of the General Secretariat of National Council for Sustainable Development,  Institute of Technology of Cambodia, Institut français du Cambodge, Mith Samlanh, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, National University of Management, National Institute of Education, Royal University of Agriculture, Royal University of Fine Arts, Royal University of Law and Economics, Royal University of Phnom Penh, Svay Rieng University, University of Battambang, University of Health Sciences, University of Heng Samren Thbong Khmom.

These EU scholarships supplement the substantial support of the EU to the education sector in Cambodia. The EU and the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport have a long term partnership.
