European Union local statement on Imam Zaman mosque attack

Friday's brutal attack in Kabul, targeting civilians in the Iman Zaman mosque where Shia Muslims were gathering for their prayers, left scores dead and many more injured.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims and hope for a swift recovery to those injured.

This attack is the latest in series of attacks targeting the Shia community at places of worship, and a clear and blunt criminal act aiming at dividing the Afghan people and nation.

The European Union stands by the Afghan authorities and people in the fight against terrorism, and remains committed to helping the Afghan people to achieve a peaceful and prosperous future.
