Serbia and Kosovo agree final steps for implementation of justice agreement in meeting of EU-facilitated Dialogue

In the meeting facilitated by High Representative Mogherini, President Hashim Thaçi of Kosovo and President Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia confirmed that the Justice Agreement will be fully implemented on 17 October 2017. On that day, judges, prosecutors and judicial staff will be integrated into the Kosovo Judiciary. The integration of the judicial personnel will allow for justice to be delivered across Kosovo and, in particular, in the Mitrovica region.
Furthermore, the High Representative and the Presidents also followed up on their last meeting in July, when they agreed to start working on a new phase of the Dialogue. Work on this will continue in the coming weeks.
Welcoming the outcome of the meeting, Mogherini reiterated that the European Union and she personally are fully committed to the EU perspective of Serbia, Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans region and that progress by both sides on this path is firmly linked to progress in the Dialogue.
Serbia was granted EU candidate status in March 2012 and is currently negotiating EU membership. The Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Kosovo entered into force on 1 April 2016 and the implementation is underway.
