The European Union Delegation issues the following statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Mozambique:

“The European Union Heads of Mission in Mozambique welcome the consensus reached on the issue of decentralisation in the peace process. They congratulate the two leaders on their agreement for the parliament to make constitutional amendments ahead of the 2019 elections.

EU Heads of Mission are looking forward to, and encourage the conclusion of, the agreement on the military issues referred to by the President yesterday, to allow for a comprehensive settlement.

EU Heads of Mission Ambassadors share the view that effective reconciliation will also require the involvement of all political forces and civil society, including churches and religious organisations, as expressed recently by the ‘First Beira Summit on Peace and Reconciliation’.

The European Union will continue to support Mozambique on the path towards lasting peace, democratic stability and prosperity for all Mozambicans.”
