On June 16 High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica and Executive Director for UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, signed a statement reconfirming the strategic partnership between the EU and UN Women, established in 2012. In the margins of the European Development Days they recommitted to continue working together and stepping up efforts for gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide.

"We promote gender equality and women's empowerment as a constant EU priority. It is also a constant priority for me personally", Federica Mogherini said. "We have a strong partnership with UN Women and I look forward to continuing our joint work putting women's rights at the heart of our policies in sustainable development, peace and security."

The partnership consists of joint policy dialogue and best practices exchanges, joint advocacy and joint programming for increased women’s leadership, political participation and economic empowerment, for combatting sexual and gender-based violence, and for responsiveness of plans and budgets to gender equality.
