Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea Internship Programme invites applications

The Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea offers two internships for a period of 10 months beginning May 2018 through to February 2019. This is the first time that this opportunity will be offered at the European Union Delegation to Papua New Guinea. The EU's internship programme has however been offered at many other EU Delegations worldwide, with many young university graduates benefiting from this rich experience at a Delegation, including many Europeans who later became career EU officials.

New graduates have a wonderful chance to transition from study to work through a unique multicultural work experience at a prominent EU Institution. Applications are invited from interested candidates (who fit the eligibility requirements) up until Thursday, April 19.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING ELIGBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND RULES TO APPLY

Are you eligible for traineeship? You may apply for the traineeship if:

  • Nationality: You are Papua New Guinean
  • University student: You are a University student who graduated in 2017 or is about to graduate (in April 2018) from any University or Institution, authorised to deliver academic qualifications at bachelor or master level. Your studies focused on International Relations /Politics, Journalism & Public Relations, Gender and Development, and Economics and/or international trade.
  • Languages: You have an excellent command of spoken and written English as well as a good knowledge of local trade language i.e. PNG Pidgin English and/or Motu will be considered assets.  
  • Experience:  Only candidates with no prior professional experience will be considered.

PLEASE NOTE: Internships at the Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea are not a full-time remunerated position. Successful candidates receive a modest stipend to support basic expenses. Further to this, it is important to note that the internship is unrelated to any future employment opportunities that may arise at the Delegation. The internship also does not constitute any obligation for the European Union to offer interns a long-term contractual relationship.  All selected interns must be able to provide proof that they have graduated or about to graduate at the time of application. The right of final decision regarding eligibility and admission to the internship programme resides solely with the Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea.

 

What are the rules?

  • Duration: the traineeship is for a duration of maximum ten months.
  • Cost: All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by the intern; The EU Delegation shall offer a modest stipend to assist interns cover their daily costs.
  • Travel: Candidates shortlisted for the selection process shall arrange and finance their travel to the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea.
  • Proof of medical fitness: Candidates that are selected for an Internship have to arrange a medical clearance / certificate to show proof of medical fitness to the satisfaction of the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea before the internship offer becomes final.
  • Proof of medical insurance: Candidates that are selected for an internship have to produce satisfactory documentary evidence of having taken out such insurance before the internship offer becomes final. Such insurance shall remain in place for the entire duration of the internship period. Under no circumstances will the Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea be liable for any health care costs incurred by an intern while he or she is an intern at the Delegation in Port Moresby.

 

How to apply and when to start?

Interested candidates should send a brief, engaging and convincing motivation letter/Statement of Purpose, a copy of their resume and contact details of at least one referee to the E-mail address:  Delegation-Papua-New-Guinea-Internship@eeas.europa.eu mentioning the title of interested traineeship:

1- International Relations /Politics, Journalism & Public Relations Internship,

2- Gender and Development Internship,

3- Economics and/or international trade Internship.

The Delegation will only be accepting electronic submissions / applications by email to the functional mailbox.

Deadline for application: Before midnight local PNG time on 19 April 2018

Ideal Start Date: Beginning of May 2018 (07 May)

Each successful candidate commits a maximum of 10 months at the Delegation of the European Union to Papua New Guinea located in Port Moresby, the National Capital District of Papua New Guinea.

What are the needed documents to provide, if selected?

Those selected will be obliged to provide the following documents:

  1. Internship Agreement (to be provided by the EU Delegation) duly signed by Intern
  2. Updated Resume
  3. Copy of Intern NID Card or valid ID
  4. Medical Insurance Certificate letter covering trainee's traineeship period (i.e. valid medical insurance card).
  5. University certificate and academic transcript

Selection process

The EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea shall apply a selection process based on merits and aimed at ensuring that all candidates are treated in an equal, fair, transparent and non-discriminatory way. The EU promotes gender equality in the workplace and with respect to this and the country circumstances; the objective is to select one applicant from each gender to participate in the Internship programme.
