The EU donated a garbage collection vehicle to the Niksic Municipal utility company

The vehicle, worth more than €132,000, was purchased as part of the EU project “Cross-Border Initiative for Environmental Protection.”

Head of cooperation in the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, Ingve Engstrom, handed over a new vehicle for garbage collection to the Nikšić Municipal utility company.

Thanks to the EU’s support, this company will significantly improve waste disposal and environmental protection in the Municipality of Nikšić, since this donation will enable faster and a more efficient removal of garbage, thus contributing to a more beautiful and orderly appearance of the city.

This is another example of concrete support from the European Union for a healthier, cleaner, and greener environment.

“The European Union is proud to have supported this project. The donation of €317,000 is part of a larger aid package through which the EU supports the countries of the Western Balkans in the implementation of cross-border programmes and is a good example of how the Union supports the Green Deal in this region at the local and national level,” said Engstrom.

The EU's Green Deal is at the same time a growth strategy. Investments in the environment and the green economy create economic growth. The costs of investment may seem high, but the costs of not investing are much higher.

Cross-border cooperation projects bring much more than valuable equipment. They enable partners, on both sides of the border, to work together and find common solutions.

The event was addressed by Marko Kovačević – President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Mileta Milatović – Director of the company Komunalno d.o.o. Nikšić, and Veselin Šturanović – Executive Director of FORS Montenegro, who emphasised the importance of this donation, the entire project, and cooperation in activities for a more beautiful city and environmental protection.
