United for Freedom: How the EU Stands with Ukraine
Since the very first day of Russia’s aggression, the European Union and its member states have stood firmly with Ukraine. Support has taken many forms—humanitarian aid, financial assistance, and social programs—but above all, military help. From advanced weapons and modern equipment to vital ammunition and cutting-edge technologies, these contributions have strengthened Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and allowed its Armed Forces to fight effectively against the aggressor.
Poland plays a crucial role in this collective effort. The Polish Armed Forces are actively engaged in training Ukrainian soldiers as part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission – Ukraine (EUMAM UA). The training program is coordinated by the Combined Arms Training Command (CAT-C), one of the two EUMAM UA operational commands. CAT-C is based Żagań, Poland and ensures that Ukrainian troops receive the highest standard of military preparation, benefiting from the shared expertise and experience of instructors from across the EU.
The training modules are designed to prepare soldiers for real battlefield conditions. They include:
- Sniper Training – enhancing precision, tactical movement, and adaptability in diverse terrains.
- Urban Combat – preparing troops to operate in complex city environments, including street fighting and building clearance.
- Fortification Building – teaching the construction and reinforcement of defensive positions to improve survivability in combat.
- Camouflage and Concealment – developing skills to hide equipment and personnel effectively in varied environments.
Recently, Ukrainian troops have undergone intense exercises in challenging natural terrain—a demanding but essential stage of their preparation. These drills simulate real combat conditions, ensuring that every soldier is ready to defend their homeland and protect civilians.
EUMAM UA is more than a mission—it’s a symbol of unity. Through close cooperation, EU member states are not only helping Ukraine today, but also strengthening the security of Europe as a whole. Every trained soldier, every shared tactic, and every piece of delivered equipment is a step towards restoring peace and safeguarding freedom.
Together, we stand with Ukraine. Together, we defend Europe.
