The EU Delegation committed in fighting violence against women
“Violence against women remains a pervasive, large-scale violation of human rights worldwide” – (EU Head of Delegation Vesna KOS – EU statement on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) On 25 November, the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe joined the international community in marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. We did this by releasing a statement and launching a dedicated video-campaign featuring Ambassadors from various EU Member States. Each Ambassador presented a national measure to combat violence against women.

Celebrating a Double Anniversary: New Brochure & Updated Factsheet on EU-Council of Europe Human Rights Collaboration
2025 offers a unique opportunity to reflect on Europe’s human rights journey as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the ECHR and the 25th anniversary of the EU Charter. The EU Delegation has published a new brochure exploring how these foundational documents work together to uphold democracy, the rule of law and human rights across Europe. We have also updated our factsheet on the EU-Council of Europe showcasing their deep and forward-looking cooperation.

Moldova Takes Over the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers from Malta
On 14 November, Malta transferred the Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers to Moldova. The handover marked the conclusion of Malta’s term and the start of Moldova’s programme, which will focus on accountability for Ukraine, democratic resilience, and responses to disinformation.

Signature of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law
On 3 December 2025, the EU Head of Delegation Vesna Kos signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law on behalf of the EU. This strengthens international cooperation to combat environmental offences and aligns with the EU Environmental Crime Directive.
