Standing guard for Europe
The ceremony symbolised Romania’s steady commitment to the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) of the European Union, and its central role as Framework Nation of the EU Training Mission in the Central African Republic (EUTM RCA). In a complex and demanding environment, Romanian soldiers have stood at the frontline of responsibility: protecting the mission, its personnel, and its ability to deliver training and advice.
During the ceremony, the Force Commander of EUTM RCA, Brigadier General Claudiu-Mădălin Tamaș, paid tribute to the outgoing detachment. The soldiers were recognised for their vigilance, discipline, and resilience. Their daily work, often unseen, ensured continuity, security, and trust, allowing the mission to function safely.
Special words highlighted the professionalism of the outgoing detachment, setting a standard for those who would follow. Addressing the incoming detachment, the message was clear: the responsibility is great, but so is the confidence placed in them. As soldiers from the same nation, shaped by the same values, they were expected to meet the challenges ahead with cohesion and determination.
As one team lowered its guard and another took position, the meaning of the moment extended beyond Camp Moana. Romania’s contribution reflects the broader EU commitment to stability, partnership, and collective security. Through EUTM RCA, the European Union supports local forces while demonstrating that security in Europe and security abroad are deeply connected.
The final words echoed simply but powerfully: together we are stronger, together we succeed. For Romania, for the European Union, and for the mission they protect, the watch continues.
EUTM RCA
EUTM-RCA contributes to reform the Central African Republic defence sector within the framework of a wider Security Sector Reform, in close coordination with other International Support Missions such as the EU Delegation in Bangui, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM). The mission support the Central African authorities and is engaged in three domains: strategic advice, operational training and education.
