The curriculum framework, developed with the support of the European Union, is a major step forward in the reform of the curriculum for schools in Eswatini by bridging the gap between national policies and the syllabus documents in the country's school system.

Its aim is to provide a coherent and concise outlie to guide the development of syllabuses for a competency-based curriculum in schools. The central theme of this new approach is to develop and nature a child according to his or her talents and capabilities as opposed to the current system of making children to compete according to pre-determined targets.

This framework, launched at Happy Valley hotel in Ezulwini, will be piloted and grounded in Eswatini schools beginning 2019.

EU Ambassador, Esmeralda Hernandez Aragones, launched the framework alongside two Ministers – the Minister of Education and Training, Dr Phineas Magagula and the Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Prince Hlangusemphi.

In her speech, Ambassador Hernandez Aragones said the EU was proud to have partnered with the Government of Eswatini in this project whose sole aim is to assist the country to improve the quality of its education.

The Ambassador hoped that the government will continue to give support to the process until the new framework is piloted and fully implemented in January 2019.

The two Ministers both paid tribute to the EU support saying without the EU funding the development of this curriculum framework for the country would not have been possible. They said the framework will indeed assist Eswatini to improve the quality of her education.
