New Head of EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva took up his function

Previously, Ambassador Stevens served as Chair of the Political and Security Committee of the European Union (PSC) in Brussels since July 2013. Prior to this, he was Director of the Crisis Management and Planning Directorate at the EEAS. As a Belgian career diplomat, Ambassador Stevens served as Permanent Representative of Belgium to the EU PSC, as Chief of Staff of the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, as well as the Minister of Development Cooperation. He was also previously a Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Belgium and served as a diplomat in the Belgian embassies to the United States, Saudi-Arabia, Nigeria and in the Belgian Representation to the United Nations in Geneva. Ambassador Stevens holds a Master degree in Political and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He is fluent in English, French, German and Dutch.
The Permanent Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations Office and to other international organisations is part of the network of 140 EU Delegations world-wide, carrying out the EU's foreign policy and providing support to Ms Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. It works hand in hand with the Permanent Mission of the European Union to the World Trade Organisation, headed by Ambassador Marc Vanheukelen. In addition, the bilateral relations with Switzerland are covered by the EU Delegation in Berne, represented by Ambassador Michael Matthiessen.
The EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva promotes EU actions, policies and interests in all UN bodies and other International Organisations. It ensures the representation of the European Union and its active participation in these fora by fostering EU co-ordination and common positions in the UN framework.
