Eradication of extreme poverty and hunger: The key role of the agricultural sector

On the first day of the 45th session of the Committee on World Food Security, Carla Montesi, Director for Planet and Prosperity (Directorate-General of International Cooperation and Development), addressed the session on “Transforming Food and Agriculture to end Extreme Poverty and Hunger”.

To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, she said, the agricultural sector has a key role to play.  It has the potential to grow and create employment throughout food systems.  Farmers' organisations are also very important in attracting investments to agriculture.
