Text

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today in Brussels with Ali Akbar Salehi, Vice-President of Iran and Head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI), in the margins of the third EU-Iran High-level Seminar on International Nuclear Cooperation: Achievements and Prospects.

They re-affirmed their commitment to the continued full and effective implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and took stock of the latest developments in this regard. They equally expressed their determination to preserve the nuclear agreement as a matter of respecting international agreements and a key pillar for the European and regional security.

The High Representative recalled the continued co-operation between EU and Iran in the field of civil nuclear co-operation, as clearly demonstrated by the 3rd High-Level Seminar that was aimed at building confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme.

During the meeting, Federica Mogherini also reiterated the EU position on issues of concern such as Iran’s role in the region.
