Main outcomes of the 31st Session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly
Joint Press Conference on the main outcomes of the 31st Session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) which ended yesterday on the 15th of June. EU Ambassador to Namibia, Jana Hybaskova, Speaker of the National Assembly, Professor Peter Katjavivi and Namibia's Ambassador Kaire Mbuende accredited to the EU, ACP, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg held a Press Conference on the JPA. The Speaker of the National Assembly thanked all partners and organizations who contributed to making this event a resounding success. He added that the JPA served as a platform for intensive exchange of views between ACP and EU Parlementarians on a wide range of critical topics, such as: the common management of ACP-EU migration, ending impunity for rape and violence against women and children in armed conflics, strengthening governance and local participation levels as well as promoting decentralization. Delegates furthermore had the opportunity to elaborate on the partnership POst-Cotonou in order to ensure that it reflects current challenges and opportunities.
EU Ambassador to Namibia, Jana Hybaskova thanked on behalf of all EU institutions represented at the event, the Namibian Government and Parliament, Namibian Civil Society Organizations and youth associations for their active participation and for show casing what Namibia has achieved in the areas of renewable energy and conservancy management. She furthermore urged the Namibian Government to ensure the timely ratification of the recently signed EPA Agreement.
