Text

High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini today – for the first time in her new role and as the first High Representative – attended the Foreign Affairs Council in trade formation in line with her commitment to be fully engaged in the coordination of all EU policies that have an impact on external action.

Part of her engagement includes direct interaction also with the EU ministers in charge of trade as well as with the Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmstroem. Commissioner Malmstroem is also a member of the External Action group of Commissioners which HRVP chairs.

"The EU trade policy is a strategic and powerful foreign policy tool, and we need to work together to develop a strong coherence of the EU policies", stressed Mogherini. HRVP discussed a number of EU priorities with the ministers, including the ongoing negotiations on the TTIP agreement.
