Erasmus Mundus 2026: Ninety Indonesian students to begin Master's studies in Europe
EU celebrates a new generation of Erasmus scholars while marking the conclusion of the Youth Sounding Board Indonesia and launching the EU Youth Alumni Circle Indonesia.
Jakarta, 25 July 2026 – A total of 90 Indonesian students will begin their master’s studies under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM) programme in the 2026 academic year. Among them, 78 have been awarded full scholarships by the European Union (EU), while the remaining students have received scholarships from universities, partner institutions and private companies.
The EMJM programme offers students the opportunity to study at multiple universities across EU Member States and beyond, providing an international academic experience that combines academic excellence, mobility and intercultural exchange.
“I extend my congratulations to all Erasmus awardees who will soon depart for Europe. Through the Erasmus+ programme, we are proud to invest in Indonesia’s future. Erasmus+ scholars represent a new generation that will build knowledge, international experience and lasting networks, further deepening the ties between Indonesia and Europe,” said H.E. Denis Chaibi, Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia.
“Higher education plays a pivotal role in the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, fostering innovation, skills development that drive green and digital transformation worldwide. Through Erasmus+, the EU continues to support education, youth empowerment, and international academic cooperation,” Ambassador Chaibi added.
Speaking on behalf of this year’s scholarship recipients, Almira Rahma, who will pursue the Copernicus Master in Digital Earth programme, said, “Being selected as an Erasmus Mundus scholar is about more than receiving a scholarship. It is an opportunity to grow academically, professionally and personally. Although we come from different backgrounds and disciplines, we are united by the same commitment: to learn, to contribute and to represent Indonesia on the global stage.” Almira is a staff member of Indonesia’s Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) and comes from Samarinda, East Kalimantan.
To mark their departure, the EU Delegation to Indonesia organised a pre-departure briefing, bringing together the new awardees, Erasmus alumni and representatives of EU Member States. During the event, the students received practical advice on studying and living in Europe and had the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with alumni and embassy representatives.
The event also marked the conclusion of the Youth Sounding Board (YSB): Sahabat Uni Eropa. Over the past two years, the 15 members of YSB Indonesia have contributed to policy dialogues, advocacy activities, public campaigns and cross-cultural collaborations on issues including sustainability, inclusion, digital transformation and youth empowerment. The YSB members received awards of appreciation from the EU in recognition of their dedication and contributions, marking the completion of their two-year term.
The event culminated with the launch of the EU Youth Alumni Circle Indonesia, a platform aimed at strengthening the network among alumni of various EU cooperation programmes around the world. The platform is expected to provide a space for alumni to connect globally, exchange experiences, expand collaboration, and develop initiatives that support the EU’s relations with its partner countries, including Indonesia.
