About the Ambassador

Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to ASEAN.

For almost five decades, the EU and ASEAN have built a strong and enduring partnership based on mutual respect, trust and a shared commitment to peace, stability, prosperity and the rules-based international order. 

Since our relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2020, EU-ASEAN cooperation has continued to deepen across the political, security, economic and people-to-people dimensions. In an increasingly challenging geopolitical environment, our partnership has never been more strategically important.

As we look towards 2027, the 50th anniversary of EU-ASEAN Dialogue Relations, we have a unique opportunity to take our partnership to the next level. The EU is committed to working with ASEAN towards upgrading our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, underpinned by stronger political and security cooperation and a more ambitious agenda for sustainable prosperity, connectivity and resilience.

This anniversary should not only celebrate five decades of partnership. It should mark the beginning of a new chapter in EU-ASEAN relations - one that reflects our shared strategic interests and our common determination to shape a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for our two regions and the wider Indo-Pacific.
