Job Announcement for language assistant to Resident Twinning Adviser (RTA)

European Union Twinning Project

“Further strengthening of the Statistical System in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BA 22 IPA ST 01 26 R)”

 

A Resident Twinning Adviser’s Language Assistant is sought for the above-mentioned twinning project. The project is implemented by Statistics Finland, French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee), Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat), Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHAS), Institute for Statistics of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FIS) and Institute for Statistics of Republika Srpska (RSIS).

 

Position: full-time Resident Twinning Adviser’s Language Assistant (RTA-LA)

Duration: up to 18 months

Starting Date for Employment (Indicative): October 2026

Place of Employment: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Gross monthly salary: up to 2000,00 EUR depending on qualifications

 

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Compulsory requirements:

Successfully accomplished higher education.

  • Native speaker of one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and translate to/from English/national languages (both simultaneous translation as well as written documents), with professional experience within an international office, preferably in the public administration sector.
  • Strong drafting, report-writing and analytical skills in English, acquired through academic studies and/or professional experience.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure, with flexibility and a commitment to achieving results as part of an international team.
  • Sound judgement and a proactive problem-solving approach, with the ability to work independently or under limited supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the country and internationally.
  • Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and acting in a non-discriminatory manner at all times.
  • Respecting, actively supporting and, where appropriate, contributing to the overall goals and objectives of the Project. 
  • Complying with Project policies relating to conduct, appearance, health and safety, security, remuneration arrangements and the use of Project equipment.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality with regard to all Project-related matters.                                                                                                                                                 

Optional requirements:

  • Knowledge of other EU languages (spoken and written).
  • Previous experience in the same position.
  • Knowledge of issues related to Twinning Projects (Twinning Manual 2022).
  • Training or professional experience abroad in Europe.
  • Previous experience in translating/interpretation in the area covered by the project (familiar with Statistical terminology).

     

RTA-LA - TASKS

  • Supporting the RTA and other project experts in their activities as Project translator and interpreter.
  • Providing translation and interpretation in the preparation and implementation of activities, such as training, meetings, workshops, seminars or other circumstances as required.
  • Providing translation and interpretation assistance in the preparation of studies, documents and other material.
  • Reviewing, translating and editing text relevant to the project (newsletters, press releases, PowerPoint presentations and documents) in English and national language(s).
  • Accompanying the RTA or other project experts to meetings, workshops, seminars as well as to missions and field visits throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU (for activities outside Sarajevo only travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed).
  • Providing general support for RTA and/or other experts with BC partners and/or authorities, with particular reference to missions and mission reports.
  • Assisting the RTA in communications, liaison and general working relations with BC public offices and institutions.
  • Performing temporarily RTA assistant duties on demand.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION

He/she will be contracted by Statistics Finland.

Applicants shall not have been involved in the selection process nor in the drafting of the Contract

Applicants may not have or recently (past 6 months) have had any contractual relation with the beneficiary administration(s).

The RTA-LA will sign a full-time service contract and must have a status of self-employed. It will be his/her sole responsibility to comply with all legal requirements for self-employment as well as to cover all related taxes and charges.
