CCC Cambodia launches the European Union co-funded project to support civil society in Cambodia
Today, the Deputy Head of Secretariat of the National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development Secretariat, H.E. Ny Kimsan, together with the Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Mr. Bryan FORNARI, and the Executive Director of the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC), Ms. Putheary SIN, announced the launch of a new project to support civil society in Phnom Penh and 15 other provinces.
“We support the CCC for its important role as intermediate organization between civil society organisations and the government, and welcome the tireless work of all members of the CCC network in promoting a strong and pluralist society in Cambodia,” said Mr. Bryan FORNARI, Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to Cambodia.
His Excellency Ny Kimsan, the Deputy Head stressed on the importance of strengthening the partnership between the government and civil society through the National Program on Sub-National Democratic Development.
“The partnership dialogue between civil society, the government, and the development partners are the core of the project, so this is unique design where no one is leaving behind the development agenda,” said Ms. SIN Putheary, Executive Director of CCC.
This 30-month project, “Strengthening civil society for democratic and sustainable development in Cambodia” Phase II, is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and Bread for the World (Bfdw) and implemented by the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC), with its aim to empowering and enabling environment and democratic space for civil society organisations. The significance of the project is particularly in the fact that enables an environment for dialogue between CSOs and Government on key laws and policies in order to increase mutual understanding.
There were around 200 participants from civil society organisations, embassies, the government, and development partners took part in this hybrid launching ceremony.
