ABC of Climate Change Videos: The educational contribution of the European Union to climate change

01.09.2020

The European Union and Chile are strategic partners working together in the fight against climate change and in building a more sustainable future. The EU and Chile also share the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, which requires everyone's participation.

Within the framework of the European Union's support to the Chilean COP 25 presidency, the EU has launched 8 educational videos (of approximately 2 minutes) on climate change. This audiovisual material seeks to present in a simple way some key concepts necessary to understand and address this phenomenon, with a strong call to action, illustrating what each of us can do to take care of our planet.

Every action counts, every action adds and inspires: it is time to act.Video 1: What is climate change? This video explains in simple words how human action has had a strong impact on the environment. Concepts such as global warming, greenhouse gases and polar ice melting are explained in order for us to understand the impact that each of them has on the earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOdlc5S5tYA&t=41sVideo 2: AdaptationWhat is adaptation? Why is it important in the fight against climate change? These are the questions this video seeks to answer. It explains a very technical term in a pedagogical and illustrative way.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7Dx8KzsFUYVideo 3: MitigationHow do we deal with changes in the environment? What measures should we implement in order to reduce the impact of human activity on the planet? With a focus on carbon neutrality, this video shows what we can do at both the macro and micro levels to stop climate change.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH2OpkUzJeYVideo 4: ForestsEven though we are aware that nature plays an important role in planetary balance, do you know what role forests play in the fight against climate change? This video shows their importance for biodiversity, air and soil quality, and how they protect us from extreme weather events.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrKI65kl_rkVideo 5: OceansDid you know that the ocean covers most of the planet's surface? As one of the most extensive ecosystems, its role in environmental balance is extremely important. What can we do to protect it and ensure the sustainability of all those who live there?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AwvDYtRedEVideo 6: InnovationEven though our way of life accentuates the climate crisis, it also allows us to develop new tools to reduce greenhouse gases and create more sustainable forms of production. This video reviews the importance of technological and social innovation in the fight against climate change.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmlBCqsdvfUVideo 7: Cooperation against climate changeClimate change has no borders, nor does it distinguish between governments and citizens. This is why it is important to promote collaboration, associativity and common goals. It is only by working together that we will be able to tackle the greatest challenge of our age.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7kr0IXrWYAVideo 8: Citizen ActionOur actions can make a difference if we choose consciously what to consume, how to move and how to manage our waste. Individually or jointly we can make a difference and contribute towards a more sustainable world.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-FE8NFWnYM
