We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Chile works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Chilean government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

We offer a temporary post as Accounting Assistant in the Administration section. The section consists of six people and the post is for a limited duration of 6 months. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration, providing support, expertise and assistance in accounting and administrative tasks such as:

  • Initiation of commercial invoices, credit notes, internal documents, cost claims and pre-financing in the Account IT System for the European Union, and hereunder ensuring the correct use of budget lines
  • Creation of payment requests and initiation of payment orders in the accounting system
  • Preparation of monthly accounts reports to headquarters
  • Follow up replenishments of the Imprest Account
  • Reconciliation of Bank accounts
  • Budget reinforcement requests
  • Booking of expenses according to the accounting plan received from headquarters
  • Prepare the draft budgetary revisions and updates on the budget execution
  • Prepare reports related to HB accounts, budget and others as requested by hierarchy
  • Elaborate payroll for local staff according to the Chilean Law and EU Special Conditions of Employment
  • Assist in the improvement of current payroll methods
  • Support for administrative related tasks
  • And any other task that the Head of Section/ Delegation considers necessary

The selected interim worker will sign a fixed-term contract governed by Chilean labour legislation with a base salary of 2.000.000 CLP. The expected starting date will be 01/06/2025

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • Secondary education attested by a diploma
  • 1 year of experience in local law, accounting, administration, payroll and/or related fields or a Bachelor diploma in labor law, administration accounting, or connected fields. (Young Graduates are welcome to apply for this post)
  • Spanish - ability to understand C2, ability to read C2, ability to speak C2, ability to write C2 and English – ability to understand B1, ability to read B1, ability to speak, B1 ability to write B1
  • Right to residence and work in Chile

Assets and selection criteria

  • Demonstrated knowledge of local labour legislation, payroll, taxes and related matters
  • Critical and analytical thinking skills based on common sense in combination with a logical and technical/professional approach
  • Good time management skills, organizational capacity, flexibility and prioritization
  • Capacity to work in a multicultural, multi background team, showing good interpersonal skills and teamwork
  • High degree of confidentiality and responsibility
  • Ability to learn quickly, to monitor and to ensure compliance of regulations, requirements, standards
  • Good knowledge about the functioning of the European Institutions would be a plus
  • Skills in the use of IT technologies
  • Experience with IT tools for the management of accountancy

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of selection may include shortlisting of candidates based upon the assessment of the information provided in the CV. At least the three best candidates will be invited to the final interview.

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
