HORIZON EUROPE – WORK PROGRAMME 2026-2027
What is Horizon Europe?
Horizon Europe is the European Union’s (EU) framework programme for research and innovation (R&I) for the 2021–2027 period. Like its predecessor, Horizon 2020, it is the fundamental instrument for implementing the EU's R&D&I policies. The programme's general objective is to achieve scientific, technological, economic, and social impact from EU investments in R&I. With a budget of €95.517 billion for 2021–2027, Horizon Europe is the EU's largest framework programme to date.
Horizon Europe is open to the world. Chilean institutions can participate in most calls as part of a consortium consisting of at least one partner from an EU Member State and at least two additional partners from two other different countries (either EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries).
2026-2027 Work Programme
The European Commission has adopted the main Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2026-2027 (WP 2026-2027), representing a €14 billion investment aimed at boosting research and innovation across all EU strategic objectives. These goals include achieving climate neutrality, fostering the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in R&I, and ensuring resilience in a rapidly changing world.
To achieve this, the programme introduces new calls and interdisciplinary topics focused on decarbonization and the integration of AI in research. It also expands the “Choose Europe” initiative to attract global talent and simplifies the process for proposals and participation.
The documents comprising the WP are available on the "EU Funding and Tenders" portal (under the "Work Programme & call documents" section):
2. Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
5. Culture, creativity and inclusive society
7. Digital, Industry and Space
8. Climate, Energy and Mobility
9. Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment
10. European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE)
11. Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area
13. New European Bauhaus Facility
Those interested in participating in Horizon Europe calls for proposals may contact the National Contact Points (NCPs) for various thematic areas to find the most suitable call for their project, discuss their ideas, and resolve any queries.
The European Commission is organizing an online information day on the new features of the Horizon Europe 2026-2027 Work Programme, to be held on January 20, 2026. The agenda includes sessions dedicated to changes in the application process and the "Choose Europe for Science" initiative.
